Welcome to The Monstrous World

You stand miles above the vibrant, colorful horizon of a twilight world, at the edge of a parapet on a monumental porcelain highway in the sky. Its polished surface gleams in the abundant and perpetual starlight, as it drifts lazily over the mostly submerged world, below you.

This highway is one of hundreds that criss-cross their way through the clouds, each a line which connects two, truly immense, ancient magical spires. Glimmering with elaborate runes etched with cobalt light, each of these spires jaggedly culminates in a brilliant blue corona. This massive structure of sky lanes and spires oscillates in predictable patterns, and the oscillating points of the towers carve long, luminous trenches in the sky between you and the twilight world.

Ages ago, your ancestors established these mighty wonders to imprison nine mad and monstrous gods, ending an apocalyptic era of seeming perpetual war and ruin. Much of the world had already been devastated, and so the refugees fled to the sky on the very inventions they made to turn the tide. Due to this incredible labor, the civilized world carries on: yet, the world itself still hangs scarred in the cradle of the cosmos, plagued with the strange alien remnants of the monstrous gods’ periphery.

You are one of millions who pack into the densely populated lanes and tower-states in the sky: a great, glowing bastion of life far above the vast seas, and strange titans dwelling in the ruined world below. At this point, life, community, and civilization have not only survived - they’ve thrived and turned into something else, something more incredible than ever before.

Now, you are ready: you and your people have learned to persist despite the beasts and dangers left by the monstrous divine. Instead of diminishing you, these alien forces galvanized you. For a while now, you’ve felt that soon a time would come when mortal hands would again establish presence in the monstrous wilds below.

Looking across the glittering clouds and the vast oceans below you leaves you with the distinct impression that today, that time is come.
